ABSOLUTELY - this also got to me.  One of my best ever tear-jerking 
moments.  All the thought and effort Hagrid had put in, tracking 
down old school friends, etc - shows how much he cares about Harry.

I was gutted that they ruined this moment in the movie - they left 
out most of Hagrid's speech at this point.
