I think that Draco will have to work very hard to escape from his
stereotype: whether the events of OoP will make him think about things or
just make his position more bitter and entrenched we have yet to see. He's
certainly not stupid, and as far as we know he's not so far in that he can't
get out again.

But though I truly can't see him swallowing his pride and lining up with the
good guys, my (entirely non-canonical) suggestion is that there could be a
way out of the path he's on, provided he can find something to support which
doesn't involve being on the same side as Harry but nonetheless is opposed
to the DEs.

We know (now) about the Order of the Phoenix. What if there are other
magical orders with different political agendas. What if there is an
alternative version of what Salazar Slytherin stood for (perhaps that his
true heir had to be pure in heart as well as in blood)?

Possibly too far outside the main story arc to appear at this late stage,
and possibly to redeem himself truly, Draco would have to die, but who
knows?

Cheers

Ffred

PS Just a thought that came to me and a possibly prophecy for the next
book: Percy isn't reconciled with his family but is put in a situation where
he has to risk his life to save Arthur and/or Molly...
