You're kind of right, Donna.  Actually, Ron and Hermione were up in 
the Prefect car at that point, so they weren't sprayed with the 
stinksap.  Still, I think it was some kind of "initiation", and it's 
no coincidence that Neville, Luna and Ginny played a major role at 
the end, and they were the only others besides the Trio that were 
there to help Harry fight the DE's.
