Hi All,

I'm just re-reading (well re-listening to on the commute to work)
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. It's interesting in light
of OoP.

On my previous readings, I'd got the impression that the sorting hat
quickly sorts all of the new first year pupils, apart from Harry,
who causes the hat some deliberation. Actually that is not true.

<begin quote>
The hat took a long time to decide with Neville. When it finally
shouted, "GRYFFINDOR," (SS, p.96)
<end quote>

In previous readings I've either missed that bit, or assumed that
the hat was deliberating between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. But now
that we know that Neville was the other potential wizard to fulfill
the prophesy, I wonder if the hat was deliberating between Slytherin
and Gryffindor.

Cheers,

Dumbledad.
