While I don't deny that Harry might actually be learning more than 
the average student because of Snape's harrasment, I don't think 
that's Snape's intention.  I think Snape is just trying to draw as 
much embarrasment to Harry as possible.  In previous books, he uses 
the same teaching style with Neville, whom Snape likes to intimidate 
as well.
