I also thought that. Of course, being a girl, my information is
second'hand, but what the guys in HP have been doing fits in
completely with what I experienced with guys that age, and often
later, too. When Cho ran out of the cafe, I remember thinking: "Harry,
run after her, if you wnt this sorted out [although I wasn't quite
sure if this was anything worth sorting out], and for God's sake tell
her what you feel" - but I knew, all along, that that is not what boys
do, definitely not. Harry was more clueless than a lot of guys, I
suppose, but not at all out of the ordinary. I saw through Cho every
time she ever did anything, I knew why she was doing them, I knew some
of it was stupid, some of it downright nasty, but I understood. But I
knew that Harry wouldn't, and guys in general at that age wouldn't.
Hermione's explanations were clear as daylight, but I knew the boys
wouldn't quite get it. It all seemed to fit. It was amazing.
