Hi again,

I'm posting in several messages for organization sake ...

My two (well maybe 4) cents on Sirius' death. I won't quote people
because, frankly, reading all the posts has made them blur together.

Did I expect it: nope. Though reading some of the signs other people
saw, I feel almost silly. Grim indeed! Almost - he was a favorite
character of mine, so I was optimistically hoping to see him all the
way through. As it happened, I was shocked by it and wound up
bursting into quite a fit of tears which continued right on through
to the end. Yep, I'm a sappy sort.

The narrative repurcussions: well, it does provide Harry with a
really tangible motivation for going gung ho at Voldemort. Ya sure,
Voldemort killed his parents, but that was years ago. And he didn't
know them. Sirius, he was close to in life. That's gotta ratchet up
a revenge desire. However, I must agree with the many people who are
upset at the loss of a potentially interesting arc. I was all
excited to see how his life played out - could he be cleared? If he
was, what would he do? He's been in prison or in hiding for most of
his adult life. Can he now turn around and function in normal
society? Will people trust him, hire him etc. or will he never lose
the stigma of his conviction? The list, as others have demonstrated,
is endless. And it's all been snuffed out. (pardon the slight pun
there ...)

Speaking of narrative possibilities, what do we think of a possible
showdown/rematch with Bellatrix?

And I loved the idea of being killed by a metaphor. Whoever
suggested the "kicking the bucket" idea ... well that was brilliant.

So, where do I sign up for the denial of Sirius' death group? I'm
holding out hope for some sort of miracle. Unlikely? Sappy?
Contrived? You bet it would be. But I could get past that to have
Sirius back. I am convinced he could be pulled out from that
curtain ... ah denial ... such a lovely state of existance.

Worst moment for me? Harry finding that mirror. Ah if only he'd
thought of that sooner ... nothing more upsetting than hindsight ...
having lost a parent myself, it was most upsetting to watch Harry's
denial as he tries to find any method of contacting Sirius. Very
nicely done, JKR.

Cheers,
Sarah W.
