This is a good point for the Fourth of July. One of Webster's 
definitions of "squib" is this: A little pipe, or hollow cylinder of 
paper, filled with powder or combustible matter, to be thrown into 
the air while burning, so as to burst there with a crack.

I wonder if JKR was thinking about this when she described what 
happened when Umbridge attempted to do spells with her wand.
