What if (gasp!) Petunia is Harry's godmother? I read a really good
post earlier (couldn't find the number) that talked about Petunia's
attitude toward the world of magic might be anger at her sister
for "getting herself killed?" Perhaps instead of a strong hate for
her sister, perhpaps there was a strong love, confused by jealousy.
This might explain her inability to adjust and forgive. Lily will
never be there now to resolve those things that were wrong between
them.
A muggle godmother doesn't seem unlikely.Perhaps this could explain
Petunia's sense of responsibility (if not love) for Harry.
