Hi all, this is my first post. I was planning on lurking indefinitely
but I had to comment on two "ARGH" moments.
1. Sirius's Mirror. This was an "OH YEAH" moment for me because like
Harry I had completely forgot about it. The package did not enter my
mind until Harry opened up his trunk and saw it. When he opened it I
did have an "ARGH" moment but it quickly dissipated into the
pleasurable "OH YEAH". Only JKR and Harry Potter can do that.
2. The using of Thestrals. The group had possibly two other options
(both mentioned by others)Use the Floo Network, or fly on brooms.
They are also two reasons why I feel the Thestrals were the right
choice. One, they were right in front of them. The group did not have
to run all the way in the castle and possibly run into a teacher or
the inquisitorial squad. Two, (and really this is the most important
one of all) thestrals are cool. I wanted to ride one.
The image that formed in my mind of Hermione, Ron, and
Ginny holding on for dear life to something they could't see was
priceless. Neville, Luna, and espescially Harry riding astride
magnicifant black winged horses to save the day was something I still
dream about. The thestral riding was sheer fantasy delight for me. I
loved every word of it.
I think as grown-Ups we sometimes underestimate the "wouldn't it be
cool" factor which is a shame because Harry Potter books deliver it
by the ton.
