and considering that DEs almost exclusively come from House
Slytherin, and at least four current Slyths - Draco, Crabbe, Goyle
and Nott -- have DE fathers, one must wonder if it is indeed a
training ground.
In fact, that would go a long way to explaining why there are no good
Slyths. V-Mort has done something to prevent it.
It is illogical to think that an author who has shown a knack for
creating complex, shaded characters would fail so blatantly on House
Slytherin unless there was a reason.

Well, that was Hitler's idea. Jews untrustworthy? Kill them!

Godric's view was one of openness. Let the Muggle-borns in. Salazar's
was one of discrimination. Only purebloods allowed.

You could make a case that if House Slytherin had left, Hogwarts
would be better off, not worse off. The other three could have found
another wizard or witch.
I've always felt that there is some kind of magical compact that
prevents Slytherin from leaving or the rest from chucking them out.
It seems hard to believe that one house could cause so much trouble,
or have such a philosophical difference, without some kind of binding
force.
Which could further explain the Sorting Hat's warning. "You're in
this together, and that's not changing, so get along," essentially.

intuition or brains. Dumbledore never trusted Tom Riddle.
And just because Riddle called Hagrid by his first name does not mean
friendship.

SLYTHERIN VOLDEMORT gave them to him.
Harry ran away from Slytherin as fast as his knobby knees would take
him. "Not Slytherin. Not Slytherin. Not Slytherin." That fact alone
makes him un-Slytherin.
And let us remember that Draco was picked for House Slytherin in
about a second. Clearly, the Sorting Hat found him the ideal
Slytherin.
