Beautifully abstract, and who knows - the first book did have an alchemical bent (though it's not been really followed-up other than via potion-making). Even though I know a bit about alchemical history, I also responded with a "huh?" and found it implausible that JK would consciously weave an "alchemical formula" into the series. The Xian right-wingers would have a field day with that! The human liberation issues are perfectly sound theories, though!
