Sounded to me like the Sorting Hat wanted to do away
with houses.  It seemed to think the system was
broken.  It said "I worry that it's wrong" about
sorting the kids and that "sorting might bring the end
I fear"

I wouldn't bet on the abolishment of the house system
by the end of the series, but I sure wouldn't bet
against it.
