Hi all,

Still attempting to keep up which is an on-going, very difficult
process.

Anyway, I was reading PG Wodehouse's "Carry On, Jeeves" (which has
no relation to HP at all, I know) and came across this sentence which
made sit up and say OY!

Bertie Wooster discovers that his valet, Meadowes, has been nicking
things of his and writes:

"It transpiring, moreover, that he had looted a lot of other things
here and there about the place, I was reluctantly compelled TO HAND
the misguided blighter THE MITTEN..." (caps are mine)

He sacks the fellow, obviously, and the phrase he uses parallels
house-elf sacking--giving him clothes! Is this (or was this) a
common phrase used for firing someone and could this be where JKR
came up with the idea for handing house-elves *real* clothes?

So what do y'all think?

And on Harry. I had postulated on this in an earlier post, but I
think it got lost in the deluge, so I re-postulate it here.

I noticed that in many cases before Harry had a Voldy-induced
dream/vision, it was mentioned that he felt sick to his stomach. Two
notable cases happen in Chapter 24 "Occlumency" and in Chapter
26 "Seen and Unforeseen."

In Ch. 24 (p538, US ed) "Harry felt shivery, his scar was still
aching, he felt almost feverish." Later we read (p540) "Harry did
not answer; he was still feeling ill." He passes out to
hear "maniacal laughter" and knows that Lord V is happy about
something.

In Ch. 26 just before the Rookwood Crucio dream (p584)it is mentioned
that "He also felt slightly sick."

It doesn't mention if he felt ill prior to his vision that Mr.
Weasley is attacked, but then he had a head full of Cho-snogging
thoughts. And he does become physically sick afterwards. I haven't
been able to find anymore references to his feeling ill elsewhere,
but I remember that this leapt out at me when I read it the first
time (in a vague "does his feeling sick mean anything?" way) and I
definitely looked out for it during the re-read. I don't know if
Harry ever made the connection, but I noticed it, especially after
the Occlumency lessons started. His head was so full of thoughts and
sometimes he had the dreams and sometimes not, but if he didn't feel
sick, I did not worry--no possession dreams for Harry!

So, am I the only one who noticed, and could this be important for
the future?

Trina
