Dumbledore seems to place his trust in many people whom it seems
that other character do not trust at all. The reason I think is tied
to the fact that he is a master of Legilimency which Snape himself
describes as "...almost always knows when somebody is lying to
him."(OOP pg531) I believe this give an insight into the trust that
Dumbledore gives to others. It explains why he knows Hagrid is
telling the truth in CoS, why he believes Harry about LV's return in
GoF, and why he trusts that Snape is true to the Order of the
Phoenix. Remember that Dumbledore is considered the greatest wizard
of the age, it stands to reason that he would be able to sense if he
was being lied to by all but those who are very highly skilled in
Occlumency. Snape wanting to assure Dumbledore that he was telling
the truth about his allegiance would only need to let DD read his
emotion to allow the truth to be known.

This is my first post so I hope that this insight has been helpful.
