Or else, it was never meant for Harry after all (as being dead he 
couldn't fulfill it)- that is, everyone who assumed it meant Harry 
was actually wrong and for whatever reason is really was someone else 
(Neville, for example) all along and everyone was too blind to see 
because they thought it was Harry.

But I do agree that Harry and Hermione had to go back in time for 
different reasons than fulfilling the prophecy- but the fact that 
they survived is the reason that the prophecy was made in the first 
place (for if they hadn't, then there would have Harry vs Voldemort 
final outcome to which the prophecy depicts).
