I (Mary) say:

That Harry's unwillingness to stop the dreams has a lot more to do with it 
then Snape's teaching style. Harry LIKED going down the corridor and he liked 
wondering where it all led. How often did he think about it? It seems to me that 
it happened regularly---and not just after each dream. 

I also think Harry does not trust grownups and that also contributes to his 
unwillingness to really learn occlumency. When Dumbledore began avoiding Harry, 
his distrust grew.
