We all know that Snape treats Harry very poorly, but maybe there is
more to it than Snape hating Harry. Maybe it has something to do
with the reason DD trusts Snape, and what Snape's job is within the
OOP.
Perhaps, since Snape is acting as a double agent, we need to consider
that he is constantly under the eye of the DE - in the form of their
children in his classes. If he were a loyal DE, he would be expected
to treat Harry this poorly; if not, word would get back through Draco
to his father, and ultimately to LV.
Also, since LV clearly has access to Harry's mind, he must be even
more careful. Until Harry learns to close his mind to LV, Snape
cannot afford for Harry to believe that snape doesn't hate him. He
needs Harry to believe that Snape is really still on the other side
(and thus, so do we).
Snape did, in fact teach Harry what was needed - or at least verified
that Harry could use the skill, even if not completely under control -
as we saw when he got into Snapes memories. That Harry chose not to
keep LV out was not Snapes fault.
I think there's also more to the issue of why DD didn't teach Harry,
and why DD wouldn't meet Harry's eyes all year. I don't think is was
to keep Harry from knowing how important he was; I think DD was
scared of the power LV hald over Harry. He didn't want LV to be able
to look him in the eyes, through Harry. Perhaps DD suspected Harry's
inate abilities (he's innately good at loads of things, isn't he?),
and didn't want to take a chance of Harry reaching into his own mind -
and this giving LV access to his own mind. Remember, DD is the
secret keeper for the OOP. If LV gets into DD's mind, he may have
access to those secrets.
