Rebecca ("HunterGreen"):
I think a lot of that may have to do with the fact that he was in
prison for TWELVE YEARS right before this happens, AND we can
probably assume that he hasn't even had a conversation with anyone in
MONTHS. Obviously Sirius--having attended Hogwarts--would KNOW that
he can't get into Gryffindor without the password. He acts sort of
strangely throughout PoA-in the shreiking shack he nearly lets Harry
kill him rather than bother explaning himself. Its hard to believe
that he had NO emotional problems from being in a horrible jail for
twelve years, especially being cast in there right after James and
Lily were killed and it was half-his fault (meaning, I doubt he had
time to even begin to deal with his emotions over his best friends
being murdered before he was sent off to relieve the worst moments of
his life over and over again). I was less disturbed by the attack on
the fat lady and more on the fact that he drags poor Ron in the
passageway with him and breaks his leg in the process.

Rebecca:
That's an interesting point. Although it didn't make it any easier
for ME to deal with his death, I do agree that he's acting much
differently in OoP than in GoF. Maybe just seeing more of him had
this effect--in GoB we only see him in letters, briefly through the
fire, or when he's hiding out in Hogsmead. The letters and the fire
are too brief for him to really get into things with Harry and he's
definitely out of his element when he's living in a cave eating rats
and doing so only because he's VERY worried about Harry. He did seem
different in OoP, but he seemed more bitter and bored than anything
else, not necessarily 'bad'.

In PoA, honestly, the thing for him

him

But on the other hand, it seemed through much of the book his goal
WASN'T to clear his name, but was to kill Peter. When he meets up
with Harry/Ron/Hermione in the shrieking shack, he doesn't even START
to explain, he's completely distracted by how much he wants to get
his hands on Scabbers. Even when Lupin shows up and is willing to
explain what he knows of everything Sirius specifically says "...make
it quick, I want to commit the murder I was imprisoned for..."
Obviously a live Peter would be better evidence that Sirius was
innocent versis than a *recently* dead Peter. It seems like he didn't
really think that far beyond killing Peter in his whole plan, he
doesn't start to consider Harry (beyond sending him the firebolt and
sneaking a few peeks at him) until AFTER its decided to let Peter
live.

Rebecca:
It might have just been because he was BORED in OoP, like Hermione
(was it Hermione?) pointed out, it was like he was trying to live
through Harry.
