I feel the same way about Neville's connection to the prophecy.  
Although, it's not really surprising, considering his family's 
history of bravery and talent as witches and wizards.  Also, other 
people might have noticed that earlier on in OoP, Professor 
McGonagall mentions that the only thing holding Neville back from 
success in his studies is mere lack of confidence.  She says this as 
part of her this-is-the-year-for-your-OWLs-so-don't-mess-it-up 
speech at the beginning of the year, and she's very right.  Look at 
Neville's performance in Potions--it's just because he's so nervous 
around Snape that he can't concentrate.
