Rereading OotP I found myself going back over Sirius and Harry's
conversation about the marriages between pureblood familys. Sirius
was practically related to almost every pureblood family in england
and Harry being the son of a pureblood there could be a close blood
relationship between him and the Weasley family. If they were second
cousins or such the prospect of Harry having a romantic relationship
with Ginny. Incest relationships do not seem like something that JKR
would be in favor of therefore it might hurt the ship. Also Ginny's
lack of romantic feelings toward Harry in this book, to the chargin
of Ron, have put a damper on that ship. I think it might have sunk.
Does anyone else have any other ideas
Me -
Firstly I think if Sirius or the Weasleys had been related to James (and
therefore Harry) Sirius would have told Harry when he was talking about how
inter-related the pureblood families are. We don't actually know that the
Potters are a pureblood family anyway - not in the same way that the Blacks
and the Malfoys and such are. James' family were well off but for all we
know his grandfather could have been muggle aristocracy or an incredibly
successful entrepreneur. So we have no evidence that Ginny and Harry are
related.
Secondly - I actually think Ginny's character development was a good sign
for a potential Harry/Ginny relationship. Ginny's feelings in the earlier
books were a crush built on Harry's status as the Boy who Lived and the fact
that he rescued her in CoS - not the sort of feelings a decent relationship
could actually be built on. Now she's growing up and becoming a stronger
character she is much more the type of girl I could see Harry going for. If
they get to spend more time together in the next book then I could certainly
see them developing feelings and becoming a couple, especially if Hermione
and Ron ever get their act together and become a couple.
