There's been discussion about whether or not Ginny and Harry becoming a couple in the future will be incest, if their relationship is too close. I know that Sirius said in OoP that "all the pureblood families are inter-related", but I have to think that somehow this doesn't mean *directly* related, but that some families are related by relatives (ie, a cousin's cousin). Peter Pettigrew is pureblood, but we don't see him mentioned too closely on that tree... and that might be another name that would have caught Harry's eye, what with him being responsible for the death of Harry's parents (this kind of goes along with my theory that Pettigrew is related to the Potters... perhaps Harry's only remaining relative). I don't think the Blacks and the Potters were directly related... though this may change with further readings and close examination.
I just don't think that all the families could be directly related, but rather maybe related by relatives of relatives, like I said above. If all the families were related, then everyone would know who they are related to... or should... and who wouldn't love to say that they're related to Harry Potter? Instant fame! Also, with the "all purebloods are related" thing... this must be an exaggeration, because then Harry would have to have a relative somewhere on his dad's side alive. Unless you subscribe to the theory that James himself wasn't pureblood, which I don't believe... but even if that were the case, somewhere in his family there'd have to be a pureblood branch (unless he was muggle born, though I thought there'd been some indication that this wasn't the case). Here's hoping all this jumble of thoughts made sense...
On another subject, there's the issue of why Harry gets in trouble with the MOM for use of magic... I think it's just that he's monitored, and the rest of the Wizarding world, in general, is not. If the MOM has reason to suspect or has had prior problems with someone, then I'm sure they'd monitor them as well, but the fact is that Harry is special, and he's been protected and watched over his whole life. I think that before he was of age to be told about his heritage, the MOM wouldn't really have worried about it; he didn't know what was wrong, or what he was doing ,and he didn't have enough power, focus or education to do any *real* damage. And of course, the Dursleys wouldn't have said anything.
