More important, the Threstrals being invisible to Muggles (and 
most[?] Wizards who have not met with death [ie: There is no 
Threstral detection/viewing spell/potion - Only having been in the 
presence of some one dying gives the power to subsequently see them]) 
make a much better form of stealthy transportation than Broomsticks 
(even ignoring that the others could not have kept up with Harry and 
his Firebolt).
