I was skimming some fragments of HP 1 and one thing has alarmed my
mind and senses.
I am not able to keep up with the speed of incoming posts, so please forgive
me if this was already discussed. I didn't notice, but I might have skipped
it somehow.
During Harry's first visit to Mr. Ollivander's, we read about the
shop window where there [HP 1 (Ch. 5)] "Don' mention it," said Hagrid gruffly. "Don' expect you've
had a lotta presents from them Dursleys. Just Ollivanders left now - only
place fer wands, Ollivanders, and yeh gotta have the best wand."
***Koticzka's comment: - Some people were discussing were wizards have they wands - so it sounds as if Olivander was not the only one
in UK (we know there are some other's). It is more than possible taht there are many places one can buy a wand and perhaps it is like with portkeys - one has to have a permition or be accredited to make wands. So it is also possible that there are illegal or"selfmade" wands.
Further on in the chapter:
"The last shop was narrow and shabby. Peeling gold letters over
the door read Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C. A single wand
lay on a faded purple cushion in the dusty window."
What about this one? It seems to radiate a secret to me! Of course,
it may mean absolutely nothing as well. But, there are so many things
connected with wands (especially in OoP, which are beeing discussed
elsewhere, I do not want make any spoilers here). Actually, the proper
wand, and its properties and connection to abilities of witches and wizards
is mentioned in all five books. The creatures being studied during lessons
in OoP make me think of wands, too. So, this particular wand is
specifically interesting to me. And there is no indication whose wand it
might be.
I also started to consider Ollivander himself - Harry was not sure whether
he liked the wandmaker. Neither am I.
This particular wand may have crucial meaning yet. It may be Merlin's wand,
for example. Or the one Ollivander's father used. Or the first wand made by
the Olivanders. Or just decoration.
But what if this wand is marked to kill Voldemort? If Harry already has his
proper wand, perhaps there is another very important person in the series?
However, changing the main character would be neither wise, nor proper as a
literary technique (When did I get to be so wise? ;)). It is impossible, so
I do not buy that solution.
Than again - one question is: "Who will defeat Voldemort?" and another one
is "Will Voldemort be killed and by whom?".
I considered Fawkes's feathers once. I was being reminded by some of you
that it is said in PS/SS that the phoenix gave only two feathers - thank
you, I remember :) . I only want to add - Fawkes has given two feathers by
Harry's first year in Hogwarts. Fawkes still has some feathers... And he is
not dead (well, it may be a problem to kill the phoenix - but with water,
perhaps it might succeed...). But I am not going to insist that Fawkes will
give (or has given) the third one.

***Koticzka's comment:
Perhaps it is like anything we use - they may just be broken or have
scratches which disturb its function (in GoF, I got the impression that this
does matter). I also suppose the size may have some
importance - Mr. Ollivander measured Harry during the first (and the only so
far) visit.

How can you hurt a man who has nothing?
Give him something broken.
