Beth (a poor, deluded Saints fan) suggested -
Ron - Southampton (my team). Loveable, good on the pitch when he
wants to be but crumbles under pressure. Very rarely gets any of
the glory - but this year, when we got to our first Cup Final for 27
years, he got to be prefect! Coincidence?!
Me -
Hmm not sure about that - they have after all had success within living
memory. I'll put him as Norwich City. Occasionally has flashes of brilliance
(cup runs, I even remember them playing in Europe) but not terribly
consistent. Also ties in with Ron's love of food bearing in mind who our
chairman is (Delia Smith) Has a good basic grounding in the game but
sometimes has trouble putting it in to practice.
Of course if Ron were Norwich City he'd be sold immediately to another team
now he's shown some actual talent :) I'm trying and failing to come up woth
some comparison between Ron and my favourite norwich player - Clint Easton.
(veering totally ot now but I went to my first live football game this year,
with my father - another deluded Saints fan, fantastic seats amongst the
home fans at the St Mary's ground to watch the Southampton-Norwich cup tie -
unfortunately I'm a Canaries fan so it wasn't the most comfortable 2 hours
of my life. Fortunately like footie fans everywhere we could unite over the
fact that the ref was a moron <g>)
Beth again -
The Tornados are defintiely the Man Utd of the Quidditch world as
another listee pointed out (sorry can't remember the name).
Me -
Yeah that was me. To explain this a little more to our American cousins I
would point out that Man Utd are the biggest and (debateably) most
successful team in the UK. While they have a central core of fans who have
supported them for generations their stereotypical fan is from southern
England, has never even been to Manchester and only supports them because
they keep winning. If you're *not* a Man Utd fan then it's expected that you
will hate the team with a burning passion. Fans of teams like Ron's beloved
Cannons loathe Man Utd fans because there's no real dedication involved in
cheering on a team that always wins - so personally I said "Yes!" when Ron
taunted Cho over the Tornadoes.
