Indigo:

Now my two knuts:

Harry panicked, pure and simple. He's talented, smart, resourceful,
clever, and admired by many but he's still when you get down to it a
15 year old kid whose only "true family" was imperiled by the party
that murdered his parents.

No, I don't believe Harry doesn't consider the Weasleys as his "true
family." But Sirius has a close personal link with James and Lily,
and so to Harry is a much more vital relative from his point of view.

Plus, keep in mind when in the book this happened. They'd ust gotten
on the wrong side of Umbridge and her Inquisitional Squad, and
emotions were running high all around.

---snip---

I agree with you Indigo.

If you take into consideration everything going on in Harry's life,
the emotional rollercoaster he was on that just never stopped. I
can see where he would forget about it, or maybe he thought it was
something else, like maybe a journal or something used to summon
Sirius. I think in Harry's mind, he didn't want to even risk losing
Sirius, expecially after the incident with him almost getting caught
by Umbridge's hand in the Griffindor tower. In Sirius, Harry saw
the hope for a normal life that he so yearned for, plus the
possiblilty of learning more about who his parents were and what
they were like. Its tragic that he learned too late, but I think
there is a reason for this happening, and I think Harry in the next
book, will become much more secure and have a strong drive and
desire to protect the people he cares about who are left. Because
Ron and Hermione are part of his "family". (subsequently, I
honestly see it being impossible for Harry to have a relationship
with Hermione, but thats just me :p)

There's my sickle worth :D
