Ah, but Neville is the odd kid out, just like Snape was. It could
possibly be that Snape is hurting Neville as a form of self-loathing?
That being weak, the way Neville is, is to face the same road that
Snape had to? Maybe he's trying to bully Neville into actually
standing up to Draco and other people rather than simply to hurt him.

I could be wrong, but if Snape is Neville's worse fear, it might also
be possible that standing UP to Snape is his worse fear. Snape
represents a bully, and not just any bully, a teacher, somebody he
CAN'T argue with, or defend himself against, the ultimate form of a
bully. But now, thanks to OOP, Neville has a backbone. Considering
what we heard Snape say about how only the best are taken into his
NEWTS classes, its doubtful that Neville will get the chance to
stand up to Snape himself. But then again, Neville's fears may
change.

But I'm more in the vein of Neville's fears being represented in
Snape. Neville is afraid of bully, and up until the fight at the
Ministry, Snape was the biggest bully of them all in Neville's
view. He really still is, as the Death Eaters at the ministry were
defeated, but Snape hasn't been yet.

Something to think on anyhoo.
