and Hagrid has put them in contact with countless potentially-dangerous beasts. It's
a credit to Sal that the snake didn't attack anyone until some 900 years later! He
couldn't have seen infinitely into the future...
and, as for the pureblood thing... and an explanation why halfblood but not muggle-
born are allowed, too: i'm going to have to go with the overdone fanfic explanation
that a millennium ago anyone from a non-wizarding family was a security risk.
