But keep in mind that here we are entering the first of the final 
trilogy of the arch. In the first three books there is a unity and 
cohesion appropriate to the POV and age of Harry. GoF, the centre of 
the arch functions as a bridge for the two trilogies before and 
after it. Equally, PoA, GoF, and OoP themselves form a trilogy 
centering on Harry, Sirius Black, and the issues of authority and 
parental authority.

Yes, but Harry and group are not really part of the 'in crowd' are 
they, and unless Hermione found it a fascinating tid-bit to throw in 
from her detailed and devoted reading of Hogwarts: A History, I can 
see that it might not have come up before -- at least to Harry.
