He said that the easiest path is the old "straight and narrow" up the middle. This is the perfectly balanced path that meets each challenge without excesses. The outer paths are the excesses on either end of the continuum that can cause a person to lose their
balanced perspective. For example: one can be ruled by one's heart or one's head. A person who is ruled by only their heart will be unbalanced and make their own path more difficult by the decisions
they make. Many will be good decisions, but there will be poor decisions as well. On the other hand, someone who makes all their decisions based on their head – or purely logically – will also make their path more difficult. The well-balanced person who is cruising up the straight and narrow path toward enlightenment/self-actualization/etc. will employ a synergy of both intellect and emotion.

These two gentlemen are both strong forces in Harry's life. He needs to learn to strike a balance between Sirius' emotion and Snape's logical intellect.
Anyway, that's my two cents. I may be way off the mark. Who knows?

Hans response:
I don't think you're off the mark at all. In my opinion you have made a valuable contribution to this discussion. I must say that I'm really grateful to the people who are now responding to my continuing theory that HP is an extremely powerful "roadmap" to total human liberation.
Every post is valuable and people obviously enjoy analyzing and dissecting the books and getting a deeper insight into the story as seen literally. But there are also those who see this story as a gift to humanity to enable it ultimately to transcend the finite world and unite with the Potter of the universe.
I'm thrilled to read your contribution about the so called Tree of Life which I've heard about but never understood what use it had. The point you made is valid and very interesting.
I would now like to throw some more light on this issue from the point of view of the Roadmap to Liberation (acknowledgements to George Dubbleya).

When I say the heart should take the lead in this process, I'm not talking about letting the emotions rule our lives.

Harry does not symbolise the emotions! His mother was Lily, the traditional symbol for purity. His father was a stag, or hart in old English. This is the traditional symbol for longing, as expressed so exquisitely in Psalm 42: "As a hart longs for flowing streams, so longs my soul for thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God."

What is the message here? Those who wish to go the Path of liberation need two things: a pure life with a great longing for ... the Potter. To them is born a son. In their pure, longing heart is born a new light. Harry, therefore does not symbolize the emotions, but the flame that is kindled from the divine spark dormant in every human heart.

What is the first act of magic that this little heir of the Potter performs? He liberates a serpent. My theory is that this serpent symbolizes the ordinary intellectual tool. When the flame of purity and longing burns in the heart this frees the intellect from its captivity. The intellect is no longer just an earthbound tool to ensure survival of the naked ape in a hostile environment. When it is freed by the flame of the heart it is able to think abstractly and to move freely.

When we enter the magical world, as I said in a previous post, the Messiah in our heart gains a powerful ally: Hermione, Mercuria, a new consciousness which is open to direct knowledge. So finally to get to my point: Harry and Hermione work together, and she gives him valuable advice. In some cases he can't proceed without her help, as in the logic puzzle in SS/PS.
How does this apply to the candidate on the path of liberation? We must listen to Harry first. Harry is our Messiah who will finally free us from the evil within us. His flame will burn out our adversary. He will always need the advice and help of Hermione, but he IS the leader in the process of human liberation.
