I disagree about the one-dimensional comment. I think that we're
starting to see the characters flesh out more as Harry grows older.
At the beginning of the books, Harry is only 11. He's a kid, and
most kids only see things in black and white. It's fitting that the
characters would be pretty one-dimensional: good or bad. The last
two books have seen the characters flesh out nicely, in my opinion,
especially in OoP. Look at Percy! He went from a little mama's boy
to cutting off his family for a little more power. We're seeing
McGonagall egg Peeves on to make Umbridge's life hell. (Up until
now, McGonagall has always up-held rules just like Hermione.) The
Mauraders and Snape are definitely much more fleshed out, as are
some of the death eaters. Umbridge didn't seem one-dimensional and
incompetent, in my opinion. She's not a death eater (that we know
of), but she has a very dark side. Showing Harry that everyone
doesn't fit nicely into the categories of good and evil.
