the rumors of his being a vile Pureblood fanatic in the same vein s
the Malfoys and Blacks was based on 1000 years--his views get
distorted from, perhaps, mistrust of muggle-born students to full-
blown racism. Bah.
But he built the Chamber of Secrets and had the Basilisk hidden in
it. This is more than mistrust and even more than racism. It's
planned murder. So I would say he was indeed an evil man.

Yes, and I think we will see them. I think it is IMO logical, that
they remain mostly silent. After all, the Sorting Hat said, that ALL
houses should work together.

the Slytherins? Are they really an Ever So Evil House that deserves
to have their dungeon permanently flooded?
No, I don't think so. But OOTP was the first book, in which the
Gryffindors interacted more with Ravenclaws. I think it is logical,
that it takes longer for interaction with the Slytherins. Also: There
is Snape who didn't seem to be cmpletely evil. We don't know the
opinion from Millicent Bulstrode, Theodore Nott or even Pansy
Parkinson about Voldemorts return. They may not be nice, but that
doesn't mean they have to be completely evil.
