That could easily be the case, of course, which would reduce the number of
5th years proportionately - unfortunately we don't even have a hint of how
many students leave after OWLs.

If we assume 120 is what's meant by "more than a hundred", 80 of them are
5th years sitting OWLs, and 40 are 7th years sitting NEWTs, then that would
average 20 per house per year or around 500  for the school as a whole -
though that's still less than the 800 at the Quidditch game in PoA
