As a fan of BBC America and different "Brit Coms", I'm pretty good at translating to American English. Skips are different than most of our dumpsters in that they are open to the top and are usually used for construction trash. You see them in "Ground Force", a surprize gardening show alot. They may also have a covered version for food type trash, but I haven't heard them called skips.
