Me: 

Uhh...where does it say he didn't loose his looks until Harry was a year old. 
 He had gone on his 'dark journey' a while before the attack on Harry and 
become how we see him now way before than. 

As for the age difference. As I understand it, Vol-sorry...You-Know-You...Is 
around McGonagall's age. So if Bellatrix is 40,41 and Lord Thingy is 80 
something there would be a bit more than fifteen years between them.
