1. Giants

It had always been my impression that giants were a relatively
intelligent and civilized species, even if somewhat warrior-like
and "primtive" (by Wizard standards) in the way they structured their
society. Early on in OoP, this seems to be validated -- they have
chieftans who demand obeisance, they definitely have a strictly-
established social order. And, remember, they can be charming/sexy
enough that humans occasionally develop crushes on them and have
affairs (and/or marriages) with them.

Then along comes Grawp --a drooling, barely-articulate brute who
seems all too much like King Kong in chains. Is THIS the kind of
thing that Hagrid's mother (and, unless I'm mis-remembering
something, Olympe's mother as well) actually MARRIED!? Ewww!!!!!
Continuity problem here for JKR -- or am I missing something?

2. Diagnosing Harry

The discussions about Harry's erstwhile "depression" are interesting,
but methinx that to apply Muggle psychology to folks who live every
day in the presence of beings/forces/things/realities that would be
considered symptoms of acute psychosis if they were "seen" by
everyday humans is somewhat questionable.

3. Luna as the next Dumbledore

Okay, maybe not literally -- she's too much of a space-case to
administer her own wardrobe, let alone a school. Nonetheless, I
can't help but wonder if her supposedly "spaced-out" serenity in the
face of danger might not be more than it appears. Somehow it reminds
me of Dumbledore's serenity in similar circumstances. He is
absolutely unruffle-able (sp?) in the face of personal danger --
because he has absolute confidence in his own ability to meet it, I
assume. Might her calmness not represent something similar? I think
she "sees" more than some folks give her credit for (sybolized,
perhaps, by her ability to see the Thestrals) --
