I think all teaching staff with the exception of Hagrid and Madam
Hooch are titled Professor. The other Hogwarts staff are all titled
madam (Pince, Pomfrey etc...)except Filch who is just Filch.

Now I know that Mdm's Pince and Pomfrey and Filch are not teachers so
that explains why they do not get called Professor. Hagrid didn't
even finish school so no Prof for him either. That only leaves Madam
Hooch, any ideas??

So, what qualifications do we expect in our teaching staff?

McGonagal - oviously accomplished in transfiguration as she is an
animagus (or are these facts completely unrelated?), but what 'real
life' experience can an expert at transfiguration get in the big wide
wizarding world?
Moody - what better qualification for DADA teacher than being a world
famous Auror.
Lockhart - (bad example coz he was poo!) Famously published for his
DADA exploits.
Snape - (Sorry Prof Dumbledore, sir - PROFESSOR Snape) Accomplished
with potions one of the first to regularly 'brew' the wolfsbane
potion...
Binns - he's a ghost and was old when he died therefore he's probably
a history lesson all in himself!

Need I go on?

JKR has stated ina n interview that there is no Wizarding University,
yet we know from career day that specialised 'courses' exist. Is
there a department at the ministry for Student Teachers. And if so
it's obvious that Flitwick and Snape had very different teacher
training experiences.

Just a thought or two - probably from all the posts about what's in a
name. Ooh! And as a side note, why is Dumbledore so particular about
Harry always using Snape's title? Harry refers to both Snape and
Quirrel by their surnames in the same sentence in PS/SS, yet
Dumbledore only corrects Harry with Prof Snape not Prof Q?

This post went on way longer than expected, Sorry folks!
