Hi -
Catching up.........
I said: >>>"A player, a good player, and a seeker? Yeah, those are all
surprises and I don't see any textual backup for where we as readers
could have possibly guessed that."<<<
CM: <<<<There wasn't any textual backup for *Harry* being such an outstanding Quidditch player, either, but we all seemed to accept that without question. At least in Ginny's case, we already knew that she'd grown up in a family full of talented players.>>>>>>>>
There is textual evidence that he's sure-footed and quick and might be therefore athletic. And, more importantly, Harry's Quidditch talent is introduced very early-on in the series. We're not supposed to wonder why we didn't figure out Harry was a Quidditch star in the previous 35 pages. :--) Ginny, OTOH, hasn't demonstrated any athleticism or overt interest in Quidditch in over 1500 pages of the 4 previous novels. Bit of a shock, that one. IMHO.
I said: >>>"Yes, Hermione seems all too delighted to tell Harry what he did wrong after-the-fact, and given all her observations of Cho, one
would think that she might have done just that (walk up and tell Cho
that she, Hermione, has no romantic interest in Harry, and explain
Harry's inexperience with dating matters). But, she didn't. Hmmm.
Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm. I wonder. Yep, fits in pretty well with my H/H
reading of the text."<<<
<<<<<<Really? I suppose I might have read it that way too, if she hadn't immediately followed up her analysis by griping (and then sighing)
about Ron. :)>>>>>>>>>>>
Sighing? Well, yes. That sigh could have meant several things though:
a. Sigh. "Oh, will he *ever* grow up and get a *clue* that I'm madly in love with him?" (not my first choice obviously)
b. Sigh. "Poor Ron. He's so completely clueless. He's going to run into so many problems with girls."
c. Sigh. "What a dolt, that Ron."
d. Sigh. "Ron. Geez. I'm going to eventually have to have *that* conversation with him, if he doesn't get over this crush on me. I don't want to. Maybe I can just keep avoiding it."
Yeah, see? Variety of interpretations.
Penny
