>From Book 1, Chap 1, we know that Voldemort was in power for 11 years
before Harry defeated him. Yet, it seems that many of the deaths that
we have learned about seemed to occur the year before Voldemort fell,
i.e. around the time of Harry's birth. Could this be a possible
foreshadowing? All we know so far is that James and Lily went into
hiding. Perhaps there was more to this story? Perhaps there was a war
over Harry?
Here is a list of the people who were killed the year Harry was born:
Evan Rosier, alleged friend of Snape's and fellow DE. He bit off
Moody's nose. (why did JKR name him Evan? So closely related to
Lily's name...)
Wilkes, another alleged Snape friend and DE (don't know gender)
Regulus Black, who was killed by DEs on V-mort's orders
I want to know why DD waited so long to start the original Order.
Assuming that James and Lily started Hogwarts in 1971, graduated in
1978 (this follows JKR's comment about Snape being 35 or 36 around
GoF), V-mort was in power from 1970-1981. If there was an Order
before James and Lily joined, why didn't Moody show a photograph of
that? Throughout OOP, there are references to only one other Order,
the one that the Potters were in.
Moody showed Harry a photo of the Original Order, and pointed out who
had died. If you follow the above timeline, the photo was taken
between 1978-1980. Once again, why so many deaths in that particular
time period? Could this be the reason why Snape hates Harry so much?
Was there a whole war over Harry, with a lot of casaulties?
Of course, the other side of this coin is that since DD started the
Order relatively late in V-mort's reign of terror, the deaths
consequently took place in that short period of time as well.
However, I cannot imagine that DD would not try sooner to fight V-
mort. Perhaps the timeline is inaccurate? Any thoughts? Sorry for the
rambling :)
