I always wondered if Voldemort was actually doing it the hard way.
Voldemort has cheated death through the use of pain and dark magic. He
doesn't see any other way because he does not understand the power of
love (at least that is the obvious assumption as to the nature of the
greater more terrible power they keep alluding to) which is commonly
held to be greater than death etc.
Of course love also include the concept of sacrifice and letting go so
while it might be possibly I suspect that you need true love to do it
and selfish reasons will prevent the spell (if there is one) from
working thus rendering the spell unworkable for all intense and purposes.
