I admit:
Ah, but that is precisely my problem (and I was actually lying in bed
awake last night thinking about this). It must be JKR's
characterization of Hagrid, but I just don't think he is funny. I
don't find him endearing. I can't stand his obsession with big ugly
hairy scaly smelly dangerous creatures. I hate the way he talks. I
guess I just can't be objective about Hagrid because of this. I
certainly see why others like him so much, but I don't, and in
reality, I don't much like people who behave the way he does, either.

Why not? Isn't that why we're all here - because we find a little of
ourselves in the characters, and because we truly want Hogwarts to be
a real place so we discuss it as if it is?

Maybe it's just me, then.
