that he'll have to kill Lord Thingy ...

Agreed - it's survival. Harry's dealt with that from Bk1. The stakes keep going up, and Harry's now in the situation where he sees friends and loved ones who are taking the hits (Cedric, Arthur, Sirius . . .). We're moving toward a resolution, and I remain a hopeful believer in happy endings . . .
