In a book I read when I was a kid, called The Changeover (can't 
remember who it's by), there was a really creepy shop-owner who winds 
up being an evil person or demonic being trying to take possession of 
this little boy.  The whole book was rather spooky and had a deep 
impression on me.  Mr. Ollivander has always reminded me of that guy.
