Hi, I read some of your messages here suggesting Remus and James
switch their identity at the very beginning, and now Remus was
actually James. That's too horrible to me.
Remus and James were very different in their characters, as you see
from OoP chapter "Snape's worst memory". You simply can't imagine
that James would be modest and polite to Snape, as what we see in
PoA.
I'm quite certain JK Rowling is serious that death is definite, as in
her lastest interview with BBC for OoP. She was then talking about
the death of Sirius. (full transcript at
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/1/hi/entertainment/arts/3004456.stm)
If Sirius is definitely dead, so same to James.
If you recall the scenerio in OoP when Sirius died, Harry rushed into
the building but was at first intercepted by Remus, saying "He's
gone". Could you imagine James remained calm when Sirius, his
brotherly friend, died? James would be as furious as Harry. However,
the reaction of Remus was much more prudent and calm. That's his
typical character.
So, my conclusion is: Remus Lupin had not switched his identity with
James Potter. James (the real James) was dead at the night LV broke
into his home. However, I do expect a greater role Lupin will play in
future books. Some guys told me JKR had said in her interviews that
Lupin would be very important in Book 7 at the war against LV.
