You're not from the US, are you? There's racial slurs, and then there's
n*****. it's in a whole different league.
Incidentally, the explanation "it means 'dirty blood'" always seemed a
bit hollow, as if it's more a meaning ascribed to it years later (i.e.
much later than when it was originally coined) by people trying to
abolish the term, than an actual etymology. The same kind of people who
try to ban the term "black" and make everyone say "african-american"
(yeah, well, what about the ones who aren't american?)
