I liked your insights-thank you. I did not know about
JKR's mother's
illness.
Could you expound for me on the above comment? Has
canon shown us
Lupin is a Gryffindor? I probably missed it and it
could be
important. Over the last several weeks there have
been all kinds of
speculation about the houses of the marauders.
JKR interviews clearly state that Hagrid, James and
Lily were all
Gryffindor. Does anyone have an interview comment or
canon to show
Lupin, Black's or Pettigrew's house?
Susan
Okay here is my two sense on it..take it as you will.
It is definitley implied that they are from the same
house (I.e. Lupin got the badge) it just makes more
sense that way. Also, before one of the Quidditch
matches his 3rd year...Lupin toasted to gryffindor's
victory, and then said he wasn't technically suppossed
to takes sides. To me this implies a partiality to
Gryffindor. To my knowledge JKR has never said that
Sirius, Pettigrew, and Lupin were all in
Gryffindor..nor has she denied it. I believe that
nobody has yet to ask the question.
Now I am not going to speculate why Pettigrew is in
Gryffindor because its' scary. But i will speculate
on Lupin and Sirius.
To me Sirius is one of the bravest people in the
story. We don't really see this sense of ambition
from him *if he was ambitious he would have most
likely capatilized on his family's name* The only
thing that I see is major loyalty to James, Lily, and
even to Dumbledore himself. He was considered very
bright, and a trouble maker like Fred and George :).
Yet, underneath that what I think is most striking
about Sirius is the fact that he disowned his family
at the tender age of 16. He doesn't like his family,
he doesn't want anything to do with and goes as far to
say that they aren't even family. Based on this it is
clear to me that he would have chose to not be in
Slytherin. Just to spite his family if nothing else.
Adn as for Lupin there is a lot of subtle tones of
courage and bravery in that man. What you have is a
person who has so much inner-strenght that he is
willing to go into a school (fully knowing that it
woudl be controversial) and take a job. I would also
say that his courage can be seen just by his mild
manner. It would very easy for him to be aggressive
or even tempermental yet we never see this out of him.
He stands up for his friends...and stands by them
But at the same time he is not afraid to show when
they are wrong. HE reminds me a great deal of
Hermione.
Anyways, that is just my two sense. :)
