Sorry if this has already been brought up, but it occured to me that
there's a bit of a loophole concerning Fred and George.

We know they started their second year of school the year Harry
started school. They are in their 6th year when Harry and Co are
taking their O.W.L.S, Mrs. Weasley states when we meet her in SS that
they are in second year and in Goblet of Fire the Weasley twins are
upset that 16 year olds aren't allowed to put their names in for the
Triwizard tournament. This, and everything else we've seen, puts them
in 5th year in GoF.

Me -

Aren't they in their *third* year in PS, and consequently thier fifth year
in PoA when they take their OWLs and their 7th year in OoP when Ron et al
take their OWLs? In order to be 16 at the start of GoF when the entries for
the triwizard cup are being decided they would have to be in their 6th year
already. The majority of students are 11 when they start Hogwarts (with a
few like Hermione being 10) so that would make students generally 16 at the
start of their 6th year. I don't remember Molly saying they were only second
years in PS - where does she say this?
