Hi,
I'm not going to write a long post.
I only wanted to say that I LOVE what is happening thanks to
m.steinberger's message.
I love all those :
"In fact, I must admit that this sudden change in Harry's behaviour
was one of the things that prevented me from getting into the book."
« if I were Hermione
»
« I hope, I HOPE
»
"And I'll be even more irked
"
"I'm also disgusted at DD for not getting help for Sirius."
"Which HP fans can't stand OoP, then?
>
> 1. Those who are so irked by the *lack* of realism in Harry's
> character that they can't emotionally invest in his new persona."
"I disliked that hero-worship JKR's displaying towards Harry right
from the first book, but now I feel it has taken dangerous
proportions : she's sacrificing the plausibility of the other
characters, of the plot, of the whole story, just to make us pity
and love Harry. Urgh."
"Selfishly, I just wish JKR would write
"
"I was waiting for him to join LV and Harry and Hermione have to
pull him back - much more realistic."
"I had high hopes, in the beginning
"
Sorry, I didn't mention the authors, and it's rather messy.
The quotes above just show two problems inherent to the HP series.
1) It's part of our lives in such a way that OoP sometimes
doesn't fit with OUR version of the story. We expected so much from
this fifth book, after all the comments, analyses, theories,
fanfictions, drawings, etc, we used to share on the internet; it was
quite obvious that some of us would be deceived. Maybe we expected
TOO much. And we mustn't forget that this is before everything a
story by JKR. So it depends on her own choices, on her own
conception of the adventure. We must accept it, wait and see what's
going to happen in the forthcoming books. The series doesn't finish
with OoP. Ron still has time to join Voldemort's gang (as I also
wish; it would be annoying if I had to admit in front of two of my
friends that my predictions were false
How many amongst you all had
to do the same after OoP release?), and Hermione can turn out to be
less perfect than she seems to be.
2) Harry doesn't fit anymore with the comforting image he
generally was giving us previously. Now, he's irritating, he is not
a good poor little boy anymore, he doesn't behave like a boy scout,
he's suffering, he makes the others suffer too: he's disturbing.
Some of us don't recognize the icon anymore. Should JKR have written
him in a consensual way? I'm not sure it would have been such a good
thing.
And I'm glad Harry has defects, I'm glad he's sometimes unbearable,
I'm glad he's weak. I'm glad he's not what we expected him to be.
And to finish this post, I would like to say I'm glad you all are
here, and I hope you enjoy this group as much as I do
whatever you
feel about OoP and Harry.
Amicalement,
Iris
