But Ron didn't say it as much in the Brit versions of the earlier 
books either. Actually, I had a little thought about this the other 
day. Since GoF, Ron and the twins have sent a lot of time in the 
company of the Order. Their favourite member of the Order is 
Mungdungus. Mungdungus, being a stereotypically dodgy geezer, 
says "mate" a lot. Ron and the twins, being typical teenage boys, 
pick it up becasue they think Mungdungus is cool. Presto!
