Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book immensely, and after the lack of Quidditch in GoF, the Quidditch and the DA scenes were brilliant to read. But as Darrin said himself: nothing can beat that "oh my GOOOOODDD!!" of Scabbers-is-Pettigrew.
My reply:
Can we really expect everything to be that exciting. Azkaban (being my favorite book) was a mystery type novel if you will. It was also penacle in the series. Why?
Whether you like it or not Sirius had a huge impact on Harry's life, I would ganer to say easily more than any character in the books so far. But more so than that you get to know a great deal of the backstory in the Harry Potter universe (much like OOP) POA dealt a great deal with the friendships, the trust, the history. It also had an incredible lesson that we should never forget when reading the books (things aren't always how they seem). Scabbers was not a a sickly, defensless street rat. He was a dangerous traitor. Who killed 13 people that we know of and was toyed around like a hero for all those years. Yes it was awesome to see the revelation. But I thought waht was better than finding out that Scabbers was Pettigrew was finding out how cruel and heartless the wizarding world can be. They sent a man to prison for many years without even a trial? That is evil in itself. Likewise we believe for much of the book that Sirius was a heartless, dangerous criminal person
who was mentally insane and wanted nothing more than to see Harry dead. When in fact he was an incredibly sane, talented, big hearted person who wanted nothing more than to protect his godson and seek revenge on Pettigrew.
However, in OOP we have some interesting twists also. The most interesting being Petunia Dursley. What does she know? Is it possible that she knows more than we think? How well did she know James? That sort of thing. Which I find equally as interesting as the whole scabbers/pettigrew thing and I'll tell you why. We thought Scabbers was a defensless, even sweet rat (I know I personally liked Scabbers lol). But we were wrong and he is really a cowardly dark wizard and murderer. Now, my initial thought is oh well we need to find an innocent looking person/creature and that is the person most likely to betray. But I am thinking that JKR is going to put a little spin on the future mystery....and it will be that either Petunia or Dudley (my money is on Dudley because JKR has stated in interviews that she thinks Dudley should not be counted out as of yet) will turn out to be something that we are not aware of. We see him as a dumb, bully but I think there is a great deal more to
him than that. I think that Dudley will either grow up and help Harry or turn out to be magical.
My whole point is OOp and POA can both be as stimulating...we jsut need to look below the surface.
